Hello from Odyssey today, shipmates Claire, Rachel, Catherine, Carson, Alyssa, Brig, Greta, Ella, Jordan, Freddie, Molly, and I enjoyed a fun-filled day made up of activities such as snorkeling and sailing; we learned valuable skills on how to raise a sail on a ship and how to properly steer a sailboat. During the Lesson, Greta, Jordan, and Alyssa led the group in a conversation about our experiences and reasons for coming on this trip. These skills not only teach us how to sail a ship but also to work as a team that all seek to achieve the same goal. Tonight, we are mooring, which means that we are “anchored” to a rope that is attached to the ground. In order to attach to the rope, Carson, Freddie, and I worked as a team to grab the rope using a special hooked stick. Freddie and Carson then proceeded to tie the ropes to the port and starboard parts of the Bow of the ship. Once we were stationary, we took our first Ocean “shower,” which meant that we had to swim in the ocean and use our soaps in the water. This experience showed us that even the little things require effort and that if we wanted to thrive during this trip, we would need to work hard for everything we do. Last night, Claire and Ella spent their night journaling about the new experience while Brig, Freddie, Carson, and I talked about our past experiences. During that time, Rachel, Molly, and Catherine converted the Living room into a giant bedroom.
