Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today we were woken up at 7:15 to go to the Rhone wreck, which was our first wreck dive of our trip. There was a very interesting story behind the sinking of the ship that they told us on the boat ride there. Once we arrived, we went down to 73 feet but got a little lost on our way to the wreck. We eventually found it, but along the way, we spotted a small moray eel that looked quite evil. When we got to the wreck, there was a turtle swimming along the top of it, which was quite the magical view. Gus and Player saw a black tip shark swimming around, which was really cool for them to see. However, they were the only two who saw it, so it is quite hard to believe.
After the dive, we sailed to Salt Island. In the 1860s, the people living on Salt Island rescued and recovered the sailors of the sinking Rhone during a massive storm. On the hike, we went past Salt Lake, where the Queen gets salt for her Christmas table to honor the brave people of the island who risked their lives to help the British sailors during the storm. After we all reached the top safely and took wonderful photos, Savannah decided it would be hilarious to lead the entirety of Action Quest down the wrong path. While quickly corrected, she and Gus kept going down the wrong path. After the hike, we sailed to Peter Island, which had a beautiful reef. Then we divided into groups to snorkel our next diving spot to get us familiar with it for the night dive. On the snorkel, Olivia spotted a sting ray!
While we were eating dinner, there was the most beautiful sunset over the mountains. After dinner, we had a very fun/chaotic cleanup… We had 10 minutes to clean everything up before the night dive. While doing this, we were singing and dancing to ABBA, which was very fun. At around 8 pm, we started our night dive! As we were descending, many tarpons were circling us. We saw many cool things like octopus, squid, crabs, lobsters, and a transparent fish! Sofia spotted a foot-long hermit carb! As we were going up, we hid our flashlights and saw bioluminescent. After the night dive, we were all super tired, but we had to move from one mooring ball to another. After our very long 5-minute journey… We got ready to sleep and went to bed. (Thank you to Gus, Olivia, and Sofia for helping me write the blog!!)
