Day 16 – Pure Joy 3 visits outer space
Hello from Sandy Spit! It’s Hanna, today’s skipper. This morning, the sun had woken everyone up by 7:45. Alanna and Lily got cooking right away and made French toast for everyone. I think it’s safe to say it was collectively one of our favorite breakfasts. Everyone moved a little slow this morning due to being slumped from yesterday’s long hike, but spirits were still up. Once breakfast and clean-up were finished, we sailed to our first dive spot of the day. The water was pretty rocky on the way, but Aria, Brie, Lily, and I enjoyed laying at the front of the boat to let the waves crash over us. This amused us for a good 20 minutes, laughing each time a wave came down on us as if we hadn’t expected it. Then, it was finally time to dive. We dove at a spot called Playgrounds and it had quite a strong current. We dove into a mega group, and Dave, the cameraman, joined us to get some underwater content for AQ’s social media. It was a gorgeous dive until we got lost, had to fight against the current and were running rather low on air. It ended up being ok because we all swam back to the boat safely. Quickly, we sailed to our next location to get out of the rocky conditions. While lunch was being prepared (chicken salad wraps), Charly and I read our books in the cockpit. After lunch, everyone had some chill time. Naps were napped, the seagulls flapped, books were read, Jake worked in the head, the ocean was swum, and Pure Joy got tan. Then, we were ready for our second dive today. We dove at Sandy Spit, but this dive was a little different. IT WAS MOON DIVE DAY!! We overweighted our BCDs and left our fins on the boat to go moonwalk on the ocean floor.

Everyone showed off their backflips, and we made a group pyramid. Once we ascended, we put our kits away and got ready for a late afternoon beach visit. Henry, Matt, Cahan and Kellen played soccer for a little until we all joined and played beach volleyball (elimination style). Charly and Matt were the last two left, but the official winner is still up for debate. After the beach we headed back to the boat for showers and dinner: franks and beans. Riley then had me take pictures for her Instagram on the swim ladder (we got the right shot). We had a couple of staff join us for dinner. Henry, Aria, Avery, and Charly were on dishy pit tonight. Unfortunately Aria dropped the bucket in and had to go swim after it. Like a pro, she secured it (she’s reading over my shoulder and making me add this). After clean up everyone chilled around the boat while our staff held a dive side paperwork party in the salon. Though we never technically left the atmosphere today, we remained over the moon for our newfound skill—spacewalking. Next stop: outer space! With five days left of the trip things are beginning to wrap up, but everyone is soaking up every last second. Hugs and kisses, Mom, Dad, Libby, Minnie, and Franklin
