Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
We had a clear and beautiful start off Norman Island. After a delightful breakfast of blueberry muffins and eggs (generously provided by Scott & Ruby), we set off for our first stop: Ginger Island. Our Vega members split up into two Watch Teams to learn the workings of our catamaran sails with Stitch & Ayden. Naturally, Team #1 was up first. Kiki and Madeline took turns at the helm, rotating to help Milo & August with the sails. The rest of us had time to rest or study as we saw fit. After a few hours under full sail, we moored in the small bay by Ginger Island. While Vega folks settled in to watch our third PADI video (three down, two to go) and eat PB&J sandwiches, Alexis, Ty, Scott, and Amelia got suited up for a refresher navigation dive with Stitch & India. After 35 minutes underwater, all four passed with flying colors. Watch Team #2 took over sailing duties as we turned our bow to Mountain Point. Ruby started on the helm (later relieved by Micah) while Micah & Macy sweated the [MAINSAIL RAISE LINE]. I spent the majority of my time on winch duty and will most definitely be sore tomorrow. We had some issues with the sail getting tangled in the rigging when we tried to raise it, but our awesome staff members were able to assist us in fixing the issue. After a few more hours of tacking and adjusting, we anchored in the bay at Mountain point; at which point the DMCs set off for Dingy Driving 101.
All in all, it went pretty well. Ty nearly rammed one of our sister ships, Meow or Never, but Ayden managed to push off the side before any serious issues could occur. Following that, Alexis generously acted as the team’s test dummy for a man overboard drill. Then, after dinner (Alfredo pasta with hot dog pieces), the DMCs helped the Vega shippies learn how to set up our scuba gear for our first dive tomorrow!
