Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Everyone on Grayteful got woken up with some fun music this morning, thanks to our amazing staff member,r India. Our chefs for the day, Ty and Micah, got the cereal out so we could have a quick breakfast before we headed to Pusser’s for the fleet meeting. Mike talked us through the protocols and sent us on our way to our first sail of the trip! We got our PFDs assigned to all of us and then headed out. Macy, August, Madeline, and Annika got the chance to learn some helmsmen skills while the other Vega students helped with the sheets. We were able to reach full sail while underway!!! While they were having fun, the dive master candidates (Ty, Alexis, Scott, and I) got to watch a PADI video, “Yay.”
When we got to our destination Ruby and Kiki helped us get on the mooring ball. We had to then perform our swimming test and treading test around the boat. We tired ourselves out, so we had to have lots of sandwiches for lunchtime. The staff then talked us through some guidelines before we switched boats for rotation. After we finished, Ayden took the open water divers over to another boat for a quick snorkel while the DMCs did a refresher dive to make sure all our gear was good to go. We then started on dinner, which was Sloppy Joe’s, while we took our first boat showers of the session! After everyone got changed we sat down and enjoyed our dinner while talking about our schools and funny stories. Then we listened to music while doing dishes. The DMCs also got to our first tank run, which we will be doing often, and it was a great success. Then everyone had to get to watching more PADI videos so we could get them out of the way to do more fun stuff. And to end the night, all of the shippies gathered around the couch to chat.
