Location: The Bight, Norman Island

We were awoken earlier than usual by our code word “Abdiro” being shouted by Adam; the signal that a rescue scenario was taking place. After a successful rescue and a debrief, we sat down to a breakfast of cereal. After cleanup we sailed over for a fun dive on a site called “The Painted Walls”. We quickly exited the water and broke down our gear for the sail to Road Town, but before we set off we were given the results of our rescue diver tests. We stepped off the boat in Road Town, proud of our new qualification, and sat down to a relaxed lunch. There was not time for rest however, as the race to “The Bight” was about to begin. An intense sail with loud music and focus from everyone only earned us 4th place, but this did not detract from the excitement that had filled the day. After arriving at “The Bight” we had some much needed freshwater showers. Before dinner, the staff left for a meeting before returning to share dinner with us. It’s quite clear that our new status as rescue divers has sunk in, and we feel that we are able to cope with the responsibility that the qualification brings.
