Location: Sidney's, Jost van Dyke
This morning, we awoke bright and early for our hike up Mount Sage. We had a very nutritious breakfast of cereal prepared by our chefs, Lorelai and Aiden, and prepared for the day’s activities. On our short dinghy ride from Second Wind to the dock, our skipper, Matty P., fell into the ocean when stepping between the two boats. We arrived at the dock at about 6:45, at which point Mike Meighan told us that we were NOT allowed to take taxis up the mountain. We completed the hike, some of us in 45 minutes and some in 3 hours. Jackson was the first student to make it to the top of the mountain, with Cameron being second and Ava being eleventh (and the first girl). At the top of the mountain, everyone got snacks and banana smoothies and began the long downhill walk to return to Cane Garden Bay and enjoy lunch on land. Audrey, Casey, Lorelai, Ellery, Kate, Aiden, Cameron, and Jackson had lunch at Paradise, while Ash and I had lunch with friends from another boat at another restaurant. After we returned to the boat, we all returned our phones and took a short sail to Sandy Cay, a small beach where the whole camp participated in a sand castle competition and got to jump in the water. We originally planned on making a mermaid with Kate being under the sand, but we decided that was too unoriginal, and instead, we made a human-sized turtle named Terry, who was built over Aiden (he volunteered). Terry was a green sea turtle, inspired by the turtle we saw on our dive at Shark Point, who had suffered from a boat strike but was saved and tagged by the nearby animal conservation initiatives. After the beach, we returned to the boat to get ready for our barbecue at Sydney’s. The whole boat ate dinner together, everyone purchasing the commemorative t-shirts and Tings. Finally, after a long day, everyone was excited to get to sleep.
From Ava: Hi Mami, it’s Evita. I wanted to use the blog to ask if you could bring me flip-flops when you pick me up. Mine broke during the first week. Also, you can pack JK a couple of shirts less because I bought him two.
