Location: Charlstown, Nevis
To start out our journey, the group woke up at 7:30 to a breakfast made by Matty P, which was DIY Breakfast Burritos. We left the boat around 8:20ish and arrived at the docking area to begin our hike up the side of the dormant volcano conveniently located on Saint Eustatius. Before we departed for our hike, we joined up with the older Minerva group, and we started out with Ben (the older group’s staff member) leading the way. After 30 minutes of trekking through town, we finally reached the starting line around 9. During the hike, the two groups intermingled and chatted about different things, such as movies, the other boat, books, etc. Z, Jack, Carson, and Claire were at the front of the line, Sloane, Adnan, and Peter were in the middle, and Dasha, Zoe, and I were at the back. After 20 minutes, we meet a friend and a foe in the world: the rain. It greeted us well, and we were thoroughly drenched. After another 20 or so minutes, we reached our destination, a lookout spot that viewed the crater of the volcano. To get a better view, some members of the group decided to go up a little higher. About 5 minutes later, we headed back down the volcano. Jack, just before descending, got brutally attacked by a hermit crab and was pinched on his hand. Unfortunately for Claire and Sloane, while we descended, they slipped once or twice on the way down, courtesy of our good old pal, Mr Rain. After getting back in town 20 or so minutes later, we stopped at a store, and a few teens got some drinks. Peter got a Sprite, Z, and Claire got Arizona Ice Tea, and Jack got a Red Bull.
We departed the island 10 minutes later, had some deli sandwiches, and set sail to Nevis around 12:45. At the beginning, I helmed for a bit while the group napped for a while. After an hour or so, I gave the helm to Peter and got a mid-sail nap. Dasha, Carson, Z, and others hung out on top of the boat and sang along to Mama Mia and many other classical theater songs. They saw dolphins jumping and flying fish and had a karaoke/acapella session to songs such as Party in the USA, California Gurls, and other classics. Around 7:30, the chefs (Jack and Z) and their volunteers (Adnan and Zoe) started dinner. An hour later we prepared to get attached to a mooring bowl but those things are really good at hide n seek. We ended up anchoring and had risoto. We cleaned up, took saltwater showers, and had free time till 11.
