The Mango Tango left port after Mike, the director, gave everyone at AQ an introductory talk at Pussers. After this most inspiring talk about agreements, all the students were ready to set off for their journey. The dark, rolling clouds welcomed Mango Tango to the turbulent dark blue waves of the Caribbean Ocean. The crew of Mango got our first sailing instruction, figuring out the sails.
Caspian, Cooper, Arthur, Jamie, and Oliver sat out on the front trampoline, getting soaked by the powerful waves, while Liv, Lea, Addie, Abbie, GG, Helena, and Sofia sat on top of the Catamaran. After two hours of sailing, GG expertly hooked us onto a buoy to spend the night at a nearby island which was then followed by a swimming test consisting of four exhausting laps up current around the Catamaran, also known as the “Cat”. The next step in our eventful day, proving surprisingly challenging, given the boat constantly swung back and forth, was our ten-minute float. Our first sea showers were certainly a moment to remember, with one towel floating away but good tunes and smiling, clean faces. After getting dried, everybody helped with their roles chosen by the fate of the job wheel. After sloppy joes and salad for dinner, all the students had smiles on their faces as they all got ready for the evening after our nightly “squeeze”(where we answer a question asked by the skipper of the day and share our appreciation(s) for the day). Overall an amazing day ended with a spectacular purple sunset!
