Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Our day started with a nice breeze and a beautiful view! Nora, Mallory, Maddie, Elizabeth, and I slept outside in hammocks and got an amazing night’s sleep. Anton woke up at 5:40, being the first one up. Sophia was the first one to sleep on the mega bed in the salon (The Blue Lagoon), and she gave very good reviews. Early in the morning, we could hear chickens somewhere around the port and the waves chasing along the shore. We woke up with music playing which put us all in great moods to start the day! We all had cereal for breakfast and then got dressed for the sailing ahead of us. While the skippers sailed the boat, we all sat up front, talking and getting to know each other. There was some rain, but it did not stop us from having fun! The feeling of speeding through the water kept us in good spirits. Once we got to our anchoring spot, we all got in our bathing suits and jumped into the water. The water was so clean and clear, and we could see so many fish and sea life! Ali and Nate started our swimming by jumping off the boat, and everyone else followed! We all passed our swim test and then enjoyed swimming with each other for a few hours. Other AQ boats started to arrive at our anchorage, and many of us waved to the boats as they came in. Those of us learning scuba diving for the first time(Mallory, Kayla, Liz, Nora, Maddie, Ali, Nate, and I)sat with our diving instructors and learned the first two course sections. We also took a mini-quiz, and all passed, which was no surprise. Once we all finished swimming, we took our ocean showers.
We took turns jumping in and doing our shower routines. They are so much fun. Once we were all in dry clothes, we had some more free time. Kayla, Ali, Sophia, Nora, Maddie, Anton, Nate, and I played some card games on the bow. Then Liz and Mallory made us all an amazing dinner, and we ate the entire thing. They made Sloppy Joe’s, mashed potatoes, and salad. They are amazing chefs. Nate taught me how to do a double cleat knot. I led the after-dinner question and asked everyone what reality TV show they would be in. Overall, it was an amazing first full day!
