Today started with scrambled eggs, and Harley and I shared our beloved Heinz baked beans. We had another busy rotation day with a 6 am wake-up. The advanced divers arrive at 7:30 am for a peak performance dive. The DMTs were split into different groups today. Two went with the advanced divers, five of us (including myself) went on a search and recovery training dive, and the remaining worked on bookwork. Our written divemaster test is slowly approaching with only a couple of days left to study; only a few more chapters left to go. Our search and recovery dive was two groups (Jack and Aidan and me, Caroline and Ava) on a mission to find a missing weight. We must complete the patterns used by divers to recover missing objects placed by Sydnei. Although training required dive, it was a lot of fun. Everything becomes a lot funnier underwater without conventional communication, coming up with our own hand signals.
The open water divers were in constant rotation on and off Merecat today, finishing their last dives to become officially certified open water divers. Although the overwhelming amount of tank runs to account for all the students, it’s enjoyable to see the students we accompanied on their first ever time scuba diving become comfortable and certified divers.
The afternoon consisted of EFR (emergency first response) training. Although most of us have our first aid and CPR certifications from being rescue divers, we’re all going to be recertified. We watched an in-depth video of trainings and then took our written test, and everyone passing. We still have to complete our practical skill training with a dummy soon.
After our trainings, we began our passage. We have a busy day tomorrow. The infamous store “Sidneys” is on this island, always a popular spot. We have a long hike tomorrow. All of us are dreading the three miles and back. We ended the night with a dive talk to go over chapter eight and watching the sunset with the rest of the Action Quest fleet.
