Location: Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island

The day started bright and early with our beloved Open Water divers coming onto our boat to complete their third and fourth certification dives at 8 am. Most of the Divemaster trainees joined these dives to help and assist the instructors with underwater demonstrations and to be an extra set of eyes on the new divers. This was followed by many of the DM’s favorite dive of the day, our practical Discover Scuba Diving check-out. This exercise consisted of each of us taking turns to be a ‘brand new (completely incompetent) diver while one of our group members was assigned to be our instructor, desperately trying to rein in all of underwater shenanigans (taking off all of our gear, throwing sand, forgetting how to breathe, and more…). Once out of the water, we were greeted with broccoli cheddar soup for lunch and lots of Pringles.
We had some downtime tanning and talking on the hard top before jumping back in the water to complete Rescue series six and seven for our certification. Sadly, some were (lightly) bruised in the process of becoming an unresponsive diver for our shipmates, but it was all in good fun! While the rescue scenarios took much longer than expected, with me even getting out of the water to grab a hat for our continued surface sessions, we reviewed and learned a lot.
Next, it was time to get ready for the second barbecue of the session, BEACH NIGHT! We got to eat many, many hot dogs and hamburgers, as well as pasta salad and beans. There were pick-up games of football, a bonfire, and lots of mingling with the other boats in the AQ fleet. It was extremely fun, and the hype continued when we made our way back to MereCat with a boat hard-top night. Ending the day with lots of bonding and stories, it was another spectacular day!!!

See you soon,
Caroline J. xoxo
