Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda

Have you ever seen the life and beauty of a mangrove reef? If you haven’t then you should. Today, my shipmates and I snorkeled in the mangrove reef off the coast of Virgin Gorda. It’s incredible to see all the different types of coral and the animals that live near and under it. However, nothing topped when we saw a foot-long barracuda slowly emerge from the roots of the mangrove. It was majestic, unreal, and life-changing for most of us. This experience, plus the talk we had about reef conservation, has made us all much more aware of what beauties live in the ocean and how to protect them. We’re all very excited for our first open water dive tomorrow, but that’s a different day. Until then, live long and prosper. (Editor’s Note: the crew of Breakaway also went waterskiing, windsurfing, Zesting, and sailed to a different location for the night).
