Location: The Bight, Norman Island
The day started around 5 o’clock this morning when an unsuspected cold breeze woke up most of the people who were sleeping on the deck in hammocks. We talked while waiting for the rest of the crew to wake up, and then ate a variety of cereals along with fruit for breakfast. After we cleaned the dishes, the director of AQ, Mike, explained to the whole program the basics of the trip and how to make it as memorable as possible. That took and hour, and then we shopped at the local grocery store for snacks! Yummy Oreos, chips, and more cereals now fill the extra galley storage compartment. Energy built as we all eagerly boarded our boats to head to the Caves on Norman Island. The sail over there was beautiful and took about 2 1/2 hours. Once there, we lathered on sunscreen, hopped in the turquoise ocean, and completed the swim test. Squeaky Brat made treading water for 10 minutes look easy! We swam for fun for just a little bit longer before snorkeling. The Caves were super cool because a school of tiny fish around our feet and lit up when we shone our flashlights on them. There were so many sea urchins too! Being underwater made the crew realize how awesome our trip is about to become. The ocean served as a giant bathtub as we showered tonight. Most of us dove in the water and were reluctant to get out. Dinner consisted of Sloppy Joe’s, corn, mashed potatoes, and salad. I felt at peace when another slight breeze flowed aboard the boat, and even more at peace while watching the evening sky become a canvas of pink and lavender pastels. Everything and everyone seems to be fitting into place, creating even more peace. A brief scuba chat awaits before sleep consumes us! We cant wait for tomorrow.
