Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Today was the beginning of our AQ adventure. After a cereal breakfast, we got the AQ introduction from our program director Mike. Afterwards we finished our last preparations to leave the dock, which included our first lesson about the sails, rigging and jobs. After some complicated departure planning from our skipper Simon, we set off, having to navigate our of our tight first position from the docks, making this a nerve wracking time for my first driving the boat. Once we set off from the docks of West End, our crew prepared to raise the mainsail. When raising the sail we had a hard time keeping some of the lines from catching on the mainsail. During the hour trip to the Caves, everyone got a chance to be at the helm of the boat to be able to get a feeling for the boat. Soon we anchored and ate sandwiches as Simon found us a place to tie up. After lunch, the divemasters did their first dive while the rest of us did our swim test for the program. Then we all went out and snorkeled in and around the caves, there we saw lots of different fish and coral and on our way, back Alonso spotted a baby sea turtle. Once we were back on the boat, we spent some time relaxing while the rest of the groups went to the caves. Soon we will head out to the Bight where we are going to eat dinner, sleep, and have our first above water diving class!
