Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
We woke up to soaking wet hammocks around 6 am, the ones who slept outside at least. Everyone else was woken up when we came rushing inside to escape the rain. We all had a delightful cereal breakfast and were off for the day. Captain Derek sailed us all the way over to a dive site called the Chimneys, where he helped Joe (The boat’s pride and joy) tie the boat to a mooring buoy. Everyone began gearing up, and before you know it, we were in the water. We all headed down, and before you know it, Noah had spotted a Nurse Shark. Everyone except me (Derek) saw it. Now everyone says I dive with my eyes closed. Mira then led us all through this really cool overhead underwater canyon. It was insane. At the safety stop, Maya and Anna were having an intense game of rock paper scissors. Maya won and somehow was also the first one on the boat! Once everyone was up, we had our dive debrief and began filling out our Fish ID booklet. Rachel took it to the next level with the most detailed drawings and took it to an even higher level with insane coloring.
Once everyone was ready and our PFDs were on, Joe took us over to our fun dive of the day at Coral Gardens. Joe even dove with us for the first time this trip. It was a huge milestone. We all geared up, and before you know it, we were in. The dive began, and huge schools of fish began swimming by. We had to switch up buddy partners, and Garret and Emmy partnered up. They had crazy kinds of fun looking at coral together. Once were came up, Maya already had Mac n Cheese ready for lunch. Captain Derek boated us back to Mountain Point. We had a fun day swimming, and Reagan even won our game of categories into the water. Paul and Rachel then went skiing since there was no more room for anyone else. Logan and Mira went snorkeling while the rest of us chilled. Tessa, Anya, and I (Derek) were jumping in when we were ambushed by a bunch of jellyfish. Anya and Tessa came out with anklets of stings, while I (Derek) walked out with a tattoo sleeve of stings on my upper arm. Dinner was then upon us, and as we reflected, we concluded Tommy has the best Chubaka impression. Then when throwing our food into the ocean, a huge barracuda swam up to the boat, less than a foot from the surface.
