Our seventh morning aboard the Nómada Caribeña began with a prompt and heavy rainfall at 6 am. Although inconvenient for those sleeping outside, we were greeted with the view of a double rainbow while Maude and Lauren were busy “cheffing it up” in the galley. We gathered for the most highly acclaimed breakfast of the trip, French toast with toppings: syrup, Nutella, peanut butter, and honey. Shortly after our breakfast smorgasbord, we set sail for the highly competitive “Boat Olympics”. Myself (Lana) at the helm, and Kate, Stella, and Lucas raising the main sail. We journeyed through the BVI’s in a summer rainstorm. In an attempt to stay dry, all twelve of us huddled in the salon when suddenly, our official boat theme song began to fade in from the speakers above. Recognizing the intro, we know what is to come. Georgia sighs, “It’s too early for this”… then in unison, we stand… wobble, baby wobble. Upon our “wentry” (water entry) to the Boat Olympics, we intimated the competition with a choreographed wobble dance, which Aubrey led with much enthusiasm. Then, we nominated Maude for the paddle board king of the hill competition. Her superior technique advanced her to the finals. In a second competition, Ned skillfully balanced on the fender but unfortunately did not win. In a final relay competition, we all worked together to dig a hole under a paddle lying in the sand. Avery’s army crawled under the paddle and through a tunnel of our legs, then finally crawled onto the dinghy, which was covered in slippery dish soap. We ended our day with dinner and a British-American slang discussion led by Issy, our favorite British girl, and yet another wobble dance on the hardtop, asserting our alpha behavior over the rest of the fleet.
