Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island

Today we started the day off with a breakfast of oatmeal and cereal, but Allie and I had to leave during breakfast to go to a skipper meeting in preparation for our first race. At the meeting, we drew numbers from a hat for our boat’s position for the race, and we got the worst one. After we cleaned up breakfast, we raised our main sail in our anchorage, then raised our anchor and got in position for our race. When the race started, Kellen, Hays, and I quickly unfurled the jib as Claire took the helm. We took an early lead but slowly fell behind and finished 8th place out of 9 boats, only beating Friend Ship, but at the end of our race, we found out that our starboard motor was in reverse, which was part of the reason we did poorly. After the race, we filled up on water and went on shore at West End, which is where we started our journey at ActionQuest. Everyone felt very shocked to be back where we started and was reminded how little time we had left and how quickly this trip had gone by.
Once on shore, Lila, Evan, Mathew, and Meredith got shirts at a store called Pussers, and then we all ordered lunch at a restaurant called Omar’s. At Omar’s, Kate got a chicken quesadilla that was too spicy, so she had to drown it in sour cream and then take the chicken out of it to finish it. After lunch, we stocked up on snacks at the grocery store and then started our sail to our next anchorage. We had a pretty relaxed afternoon where people napped, read their books, and Beth gave a talk about coral reefs and how important they are, which was part of our scuba diving certification. We then arrived at the anchorage and rafted with Avizia before we showered and ate tacos for dinner. During dinner, we compared different slang from our states and cities. Everyone thought California had the weirdest slang after Stella shared phrases like “shmob” and “let’s rotate car”. Towards the end of dinner, Jake from the staff boat shared a hilarious story about his friend pranking his boat by putting a live goat on it. We then showed Jake the memes of us that Claire made the other night, and we then had a really funny squeeze at the end of dinner. After dinner, we started doing the tortilla slap challenge with the extra tortillas from Mexican Night. After we cleaned up, we ended the night with a sail talk from Allie about navigation and weather and then called it a night.
