Location: Leverick Bay, Virgin Gorda

End of week one! We woke up this morning to the sunrise oatmeal breakfast prepared by our chefs, Ryan and Scott. While we were eating, we saw a rainbow left from the morning’s rain. Bianca and Matt briefed us for our search and recovery dive at Mountain Point, where we practiced knot tying underwater and some search patterns. Bianca had us tie the bowline, sheet bend, and two half hitches and use the circle pattern to find a hidden weight. Matt hid a weight belt for us to find using the U-pattern and retrieve using a lift bag. Alicia managed to not only find the weights, but also a watch someone dropped. Simon was running low on air at the end of the dive, but his dive buddy Lucas supplied him with air for the ascent. They both surfaced safely with some air to spare.

After everyone completed all the skills and was aboard, we lifted anchor and made our way to Levericks Bay. Andrew, Mireille, Alicia, and Rooks laid out in the sun on the hard top and took a nap. Niko was towards the bow doing his daily exercises. Rooks was at the helm to take us into the dock while Trey, Rhiannon, and I thew dock lines. Once we were on the dock, we refilled our water tanks and headed ashore. We went to a couple of shops and a grocery store before heading back aboard for PBandJ lunch. We spent some time with our phones to talk to our friends and family to tell them we weren’t dead. After phone time was over, we headed off the dock to find a spot to anchor. We cleaned up the boat and worked on our Emergency first responder secondary care with Bianca and Griffin. We practiced doing injury and illness checks on a buddy, and then we learned how to apply bandages and splints. After we finished that part of our EFR training, we got to do our ocean showers.

Once we were cleaned up, we got dressed up for an evening of good food and some dancing. While we were waiting to be shuttled ashore, we took some pictures before cleaning out the fridge for new food supplies. We used some of the old tomatoes as ammunition for Niko’s giant slingshot and had some fun shooting at another AQ boat. Matt came to shuttle us ashore in Shaka, and Mike treated us to tons of delicious burgers, hot dogs, and other yummy foods. After we ate, we spent time socializing with other boats and busting a move on the dance floor. After a couple of hours, we all returned to Event Horizon as tired divers were ready for bed. We’ve had so much fun over this past week, and we’re so excited for the next two!
