Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
This morning, we woke up still rafted with Why Knot, Baba Jaga, and the nerves of the highly anticipated second rescue scenario. We were all convinced that it would begin at 5 am, but we were relieved when we were able to sleep in until 7, when the raft had to break for us to go to our dive site. Once we arrived at Cooper Island, Kate, Lorelai, and Maya went on a pre-dive swim, and we all studied a little for our Emergency First Response exam tonight. The Neptunes went over to Why Knot to brief for their final two wreck dives. Soon after, we all hopped into the dinghy to drive over to the dive site- The Beata- a tugboat that had been sunk to almost 90ft underwater. Once we descended, Ava spotted a massive stingray that had been asleep under the sand. We soon watched it swim into the distance away from the wreck. After we surfaced and returned to the boat, we enjoyed a lunch of chicken salad wraps, but all of us were still anxious about the impending second rescue scenario. We ate a quick lunch before Audrey and Cameron returned to Why Knot, not only to brief their final wreck dive, but to pick up their staff members for THE rescue scenario. While completing our dive logs from the morning, the second scenario began. I was first in the water after two minutes and immediately swam towards Kyler, who had been yelling about balloons. Jackson jumped in soon after and went to get Perry. Kate, Ava, and Ash got their kits together and descended to retrieve the first unconscious diver. As Aiden and Stella worked to get Kyler, and Perry onto the boat, while Lorelai tried to keep them there. Kate tried to help her, but when she tried to keep Player from jumping off the boat, he turned around and spat milk into her face, causing me to go back in the water and get him. Later, the divers were able to surface Nat and began giving her CPR. Rachel ended the scenario, and following another long brief, we learned that we had, in fact, PASSED the scenario, and because we had all passed our exams, we were officially certified rescue divers.
To celebrate, Ash, Stella, Lorelai, and I swam over to the Dinghy and did flips. Ash and I did front flips, but Lorelai bravely attempted a backflip. Then we began another long sail back to GHP and quizzed each other on EFR questions and finished up paperwork. Once we arrived, Kate left to continue trying to rescue seven and was able to pass with flying colors. Later, when dinner was almost done, Ellery radioed to Jake to invite him to dinner. After dinner, Selas’s water bottle was pushed into the ocean. Both Cameron and Jake rushed to jump in to retrieve it. Jake, Ellery, and Jackson discussed the impending Minerva trip in session 2. Now, we are doing our final prep for the EFR and Neptune exams.
