We started our day at 7 am while Sadie and Ella prepared our breakfast of oatmeal. We had a long day ahead of us, so we ate a breakfast of champions! We were shocked to find out we were spending the day on one of our neighboring boats, Shamwari. While they spent the day on our beloved Frenchie. Although we were sad to leave her behind, we still had a fun time on Shamwari. We sailed 40 nautical miles! Our skipper, Will, taught us all kinds of new sailing skills. Houston, Ella, Aidan and I worked on getting the sail up, Houston and Ella were sweating the Halyard while Aidan and I monitored the lazy jacks. Julia, Maren, Celeste, and Sadie all had their chance to steer the boat. We then practiced man overboard drills by throwing a fender, “Harold”, off of the boats, Aidan tacked the boat twice in a figure 8 shape so that we were moving upwind toward Harold. However, Maren missed Harold, so another go around was necessary. We finally brought Harold back, but Shamwari’s turning radius was a bit wide, so we decided against continuing the drills, opting to sharpen our tacking and gybing skills instead. While we sailed, I gave everyone henna tattoos of their name in Arabic. When we got back to Frenchie, we had dinner and had a sail chat.
