Location: West End, Tortola
Last night, there was a meteor shower at 12 am. Almost everyone stayed up except Henry, Koko, and Abby, so we had to wake them up when it started. Patrick and Niko got tired, so they left early, but Ava, Aleks, and I stayed to watch them till 1:20 am. Early in the morning, Koko and Aleks had to go scuba diving so they could get certified, and they both did and had a good time. We had cereal for breakfast, and I went to a meeting about the sailing race that took place today. In the meeting, I was told specifics about the race and how it would work, such as the starting time, boundaries, and the order in which the boats would be placed at the starting line. During the race. Abby, Niko, and I steered the boat while everyone else helped with the main sheet and the jib. We placed 3rd in the race, which was not expected because our boat was very slow in general, and we were trailing behind for the majority of the race. Also, we won because Patrick, Louise, Emily, and a couple of others were pulling on the jib right at the end to make us faster. After the race, we tied up at a town called West End.
We got there at 10:20 and spent some time lying in the sun, waiting for a dinghy to pick us up so we could go back to our boat. While we were in the town, we ate lunch and went into various shops to get food and souvenirs. Niko, Aleks, Henry, and Patrick went and bought coconuts, which they later opened on the boat for everyone to enjoy. Ava, Louise, Koko, Abby, Emily, and I went to the grocery store and bought a ton of snacks and food to eat while we waited to go back to the boat. Around 2 o’clock, all the staff came out of a boat and told everyone to meet at the grocery store to talk. Before the talk, Louise’s brother told us that there was some sort of cyclone coming toward us. During that talk, the director, Mike, confirmed what Louise’s brother told us, which is that there is bad weather in the Atlantic, and it is heading in our direction. That means we cannot scuba dive anymore, so no wreck dive. After we got the news that we had to sail to a different marina, we quickly left. Mike said the storm wouldn’t hit until tomorrow afternoon/night, but he was wrong. Right when we started sailing, the wind picked up, and the waves got very big. Everyone was upstairs most of the time, singing to music and getting thrown around by waves and seawater. Once we got to the marina, we docked in a very small spot and set up the water pipes so we could all have short freshwater showers instead of saltwater showers. For dinner, Ava, Emily, and I made Mexican food while everyone else relaxed, took showers, and talked. Later tonight, we will probably watch a movie, eat snacks, and go to bed early because it was a long day.
