Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island

This morning we woke up very jolly because it’s Christmas in July in the BVI’s! We woke up to jingle bell rock to get us in a race day mood. The skipper of the day, Madeline, aka me, had a very important skipper meeting at 7:30 am to go over the regatta route. Once the race started, we had to quickly get the jib up. Our plan of attack was to get as many people to unfurl as possible, so August, Kiki, Annika, Milo, Ruby, and Scott took in the working line as fast as possible with me on the helm. Unfortunately, we had a bad start, but once we got going, we were zooming. We were in second place right behind Highlander the whole time, and at the last second, we narrowly kept our position from getting overtaken. We finished second out of 9 boats and celebrated our win with a lunch on the west end of Tortola. Macy, Ty, and I went to Omar’s coffee shop for homemade bagels and amazing coffee. The other half of the group ended up at Pussers, where Ruby got wings so that she could report back to her mom about how good they were. After lunch, we got back on the boat and started our motor to Willy T. The ride over was very choppy, and so all the kids on Graytful gathered to the tramp, and every time there was a big wave, everyone would jump in the air and go flying. During our squeeze game at the end of the day, over half the people said flying in the air when a big wave would hit was their highlight of the day. Once we got to our anchor spot, the DMCs went down for their dive. They took so many cool pictures on Ty’s GoPro sitting at the bar or with the skeletons. India and I went down to try and complete my second open water dive, but sadly, I couldn’t equalize because of my cold. After the DMCs got back from their shipwreck dive, India, Stich, Ayden, and I set up for the DMC’s rescue scenario. India was the panicked diver, Aiden was the unconscious diver underwater, and I was the unconscious diver above water. They had to get Ayden and me back to the boat and start CPR while controlling India, the panic diver. Alexis and Scott were on CPR duty. They passed their rescue scenario!!! Yay!!!! Then we motored over to GHP for the night. For dinner, we had breakfast, which was sausage, biscuits, eggs, and beans, oddly, haha. Tonight’s dinner was one of my favorites. Thanks to August and Annika for cooking it. Now we just barged with the boat Pure Joy III, which is nice because they’re all kids our age, and they are telling us all about their experience rescue diving because they’re Neptune. Oh and how could I forget, the DMC’s are currently taking their final 120 question exam. I wish them all luck, and watching them work so hard and seeing how much passion these people have for diving has really pushed me to want to go further with my diving future. So good luck, DMC, and hopefully, in tomorrow’s blog post, it’ll no longer be DMC but DM!!!

Love you, Mom, Dad, Kaelyn, Grandaddy, Mimi, Aunt Beth, and Duke!! Miss y’all, but see you in 4 days!!
