Day 13 began a bit differently for me as this morning; I was up and ready a bit earlier than all my shipmates to attend the first of two skipper meetings. Allie, Emma, and I got in our dinghy Khan to shuttle shippies from other boats and take them to our meeting aboard Second Wind. It was nice to see some new faces and enjoy a morning cruise. While I was meeting to receive our lineup and details for today’s drag race, my fellow shipmates were eating brownies for breakfast and waking up to a tranquil ballad of Soulja Boi. Then we returned to our humble abode to chat about our game plan to hopefully win the race! SPOILER ALERT, we did not reign in victory number two due to our dear Beso del Viento being immensely slow. Starting the race, we gathered everyone in the power tower, and each took on a job to begin sailing. Emma, Anne-Faye, and Lucy did a great job raising the halyard while the rest of us unfurled the jib and got ready to go. Mid-race, we got apples launched at us all the way from another boat, Meow or never, starting a prank war. We continued on and raced to our best abilities, even with the addition of our dinghy weighing us down and Beso being so slow.

We finished in fifth place and docked after the first race led by Charley at the helm in quite the getup of an outfit. After going out for lunch on shore and updating our loved ones back at home, we returned back to the boat for the second leg of the drag race. This race, we had a late arrival, and while we knew victory was out of the picture, we were still happy to sail and put our knowledge to the test. A team of four stayed in the power tower for the whole second leg and completed many tacts. Blasting music and rolling in dead last, we had a skilled Kel at the helm, Ry and Charley managing the jib and the music, and Claire (me) on the sheets. This was one of my favorite moments today. The view during our sail was beautiful, and I had so much fun chatting and jamming out. Wrapping up a long sailing day, we arrived at our final destination for the night in GHP and showered, where Anne-Faye and Grace had some close encounters with jellyfish. While waiting on dinner, we all went out for a sunset cruise and played “We Are the Champions” while going around to the other boats anchored nearby. Finally, we ended this beautiful day with a lively dinner filled with laughter and scheming for an upcoming prank (which you will hear about tomorrow). We have been having so much fun, and time really has flown by. That’s a wrap for today! We will catch you tomorrow for a packed day! Bye, y’all!
Love,
Claire
