Location: Marina Cay
Hi! My name is Hayley, and I’m from Brooklyn, NY. Today was a really great day because we got to do some community service, celebrate Oscar’s birthday, and swim around in the sun. We started the day off earlier, at around 6:15, because we had to sail to Beef Island. We had some cereal and cantaloupe for breakfast, which was a great way to wake up. Once we got to Beef Island, we dinghied to shore, where we met up with Go Beyond, the community service group. We took a 30-minute shuttle up the mountain to Aragorn’s house, where we did our work for the day. It had the most beautiful decor and view, and we were amazed to learn that he had built it all himself. Our group split up into groups, working with Go Beyond. Oscar, Peyton, Grayson, and I we used machetes to cut up the bamboo that Sam, Mina, Luke, and Constantin were handing us. We used that bamboo for our fire, where we ended up cooking our lunch. After a bunch of water breaks and tasting the fresh fruit like mango, passion fruit, and star fruit, we got to work weeding out the new plant beds. We had some hot dogs, popcorn, and peanut butter-jelly sandwiches for lunch.
Marcelo, Luke, and Constantin got to sit on this really tall, blue ladder during lunch, but we all eventually moved up to the deck in the shade. After lunch, we got back in our shuttle, where we got to hear Oscar, Grayson, Luke, and Constantin’s freestyle skills. We came back to our boat and motored back to Marina Cay. We swam for a while, trying to avoid getting stung by the jellyfish bobbing by. Peyton and I got started on making Oscar’s birthday cake while the group started making some new boat playlists. We showered and had our dinner, tortellini with sauce and garlic bread, cooked by Sam and Peyton. After dinner, we went up to the bow for Squeeze, where our nightly question kept us very entertained. We had Oscar’s birthday cake after the Squeeze and then had a movie night, where we watched Moana. Today was really cool, and I’m so sad we are over halfway through the trip.
