Location: The Dogs
Hi, I’m Peyton. I am 15 and from Manhattan Beach, California. Today was a pretty awesome day. We started the morning at mountain point, where we ate breakfast and swam for a bit. Swimming is always super fun and a great way to start the day. We tried to teach Luke to dive, but he couldn’t quite grab the concept, which is totally fine but still totally hilarious. Before we set sail to George Dog Island, which is part of a group of islands called the sea dogs, Amelia gave us a knot-tying lesson. We learned to tie a figure eight knot, square knot, rolling hitch, sheet bend, and gasket coil. Hayley helped me with the sheet bend, and I helped Grayson with the rolling hitch. When we got to George’s dog, we got to snorkel straight off the boat, and everything was so cool! There were some gorgeous reefs full of fish and other animals. We all got to see a lionfish which was super cool. Oscar then found a stingray that swam right below us, and Sam saw an octopus. When we snorkel, we all enjoy practicing our free diving. Most of us were able to touch the sand at a depth of 15 feet. For lunch, we had grilled cheese with Tuscan white bean soup. It was so good, and when were finished with our grilled cheese, we ate the soup with saltine crackers. When we finished, we did dishes, and then Amelia, Tait, and Riley created a rope swing off of our boom.
After a couple of failed attempts by Riley (it was super funny), the swing was all ready for us. All of us had a blast, even when we would back flop. Sloane had a nasty one where she starfished. Hayley and Constantine both learned to backflip, and I learned how to launch myself high enough that I was able to dive into the water from the swing. Partway through the boat Hope joined us, and we all had a super fun time listening to music, hanging out, and swimming. We went straight into our ocean showers, which are more of just a hangout and swim time with mixed-in shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. We then went underway and almost got into a squall, but didn’t. The entire day we had good practice raising our main sail and jib, and I personally feel that I have learned so much. For dinner, we had some absolutely delicious curry and rice. During a squeeze, most of us could not stop laughing for no reason, which was super fun a hilarious. Today was another chill day that says super fun, and I cannot believe that we are already halfway through.
