Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island

Today was a long and eventful day. We woke up late compared to usual, so around 7. After I woke, I had to quickly get ready because it was race day, and I had to attend a skipper’s meeting. In the meeting, they talked about how the start was going to work and where we had to go. Meanwhile, the rest of the shipmates were getting ready or eating cereal. As part of getting ready, Asa and I put on Zinc sunscreen on all of our faces. I wore blue, and he wore pink. After that, Shane had the idea to write the name of our boat on some of our stomachs. Those who participated in this included: Lilly, Shane, Asa, Ana, Zoë, and I. Before the race started, I was given the job to assign everyone to a position in the boat. Once that was done, we prepared for the sail.

Even though we had the slowest start out of all the boats, with our team coordination and our ability to sail fast, we managed to win the race with room to spare. Although winning felt nice, the sail was really fun. We were all vibing to the music and singing along, and screaming at the other boats as we passed them was very entertaining. Later in the day, we went to the same spot we were at on the very first day of our camp. Most of us either ate at Pussers or at a Café. After eating brunch, we split up and walked around. I was with Myles, Asa, Riley, and Julian, and it was really nostalgic seeing the stuff we saw on the first day. Once we came back, Asa, Myles, Ana, Shane, Julian, Sophie, and I all took our advanced sailing vhf radio exam, and we all passed.

Meanwhile, Riley, Maya, Zoë, Alta, and Lilly all rested in the salon. By the time we finished the test, we had to gear up to do our second Peak Buoyancy Dive to get our specialty. I struggled a lot to go through the Hula Hoop with my back facing the floor, but Alta made it look super easy, getting it first try. We had a bit of chill time after that before we had to eat dinner with the boat ‘Good Times’. It was really chaotic because we didn’t all fit very well and everyone was really loud. I was talking to a couple of kids from that boat, and they dared me to scream as loud as I could, and of course, I had to do it, everyone went quiet for 30 seconds, and it was really awkward but funny at the same time. To finish the day, we debated about the point of the book Maya brought called ‘Into the Wild’.
