Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Today we started the day with a calm morning at Jost Van Dyke. Luke A. and Maya cheffed up some delicious French toast while the staff attended a meeting at Sidney’s. At 10:00, we set sail, and our Vega crew began their final sailing practical. Spencer started on the helm while Ellie and Anna sweat the halyard. As the main sail was being raised, Katie W and Maya watched to make sure it didn’t get caught in the lazy jacks. After some time, Spencer transferred the helm to Luke C. and the crew began practicing man-overboard drills. Kathryn S. and Ian took the dinghy to save our poor fender that had fallen overboard. Once they were done with the sailing practical, Katie W. assisted Stich and Max with anchoring Avizia in Sandy Spit. After spending all morning studying for our final, we divemasters finally got to take a break and lead a fun dive at The Playgrounds. John started the dive as the leader, while Luke A, Stich, and I followed behind.
Throughout the dive, we switched who held the Divemaster position and explored the beautiful dive site that was filled with thousands of marine organisms. After our dive, we returned to Avizia to find that the rest of our shipmates had left and gone to the small island nearby. Paige said that during her time there, she enjoyed observing everyone and watching the staff make a human pyramid. For dinner, we had franks and beans with some Marshmallow Fruity Pebbles for dessert. After, the Vega’s took their knot-tying tests, and I’m sure Sofia mastered her bowline after I taught her my (super secret) tricks. We ended the day with a movie night (study night for the divemasters), where we watched Pirates of the Caribbean. I can’t wait to be a part of our first AQ sailing race tomorrow morning!
P.S. Mom, and Dad, We finished all of our in-water and Divemaster skills! Our last step to being certified is our final test tomorrow!
