Location: Anegada
Day 8 started off rocky. At 5:30 am, we woke up to the swishing of the boat. We were headed to an island named Anagada. It was so windy our speed overground was 9 knots which are around 12 miles per hour. We anchored at around 8 am while Thea and Sariah made our breakfast of oatmeal and granola. After eating breakfast, we got ready to get to the island and compete against the rest of sail side A for the beach Olympics. The island was a flat land that had white sand and clear light blue water. I personally thought it was the prettiest place we’ve been to so far. Leo found a pretty piece of coral.
All the groups huddled and discussed strategies to win, along with their cheers. The first competition was King of the Hill on the paddle board, where Peyton was our team representative and got second place (which was as far as we got today). The next competition was balancing on a fender which Will was our representative for. The third competition was a team effort to dig a hole. Five of our team members had to crawl under the hole, swim to a dinghy that was soaped up, and climb into it while a counselor tried to push them down and swim back for the next person. Our five people were Chloe, Kiera, Will, Lily, and me. The final competition was a tug of war which we really thought we could win. We came out last. We may not have won anything, but we had the most spirit and overall had fun with it. After getting back to the boat, we had lunch and got ready to sail. Everybody went to sleep pretty late the night before from the barbecue, so everybody took this chance to take a nap or just talk and relax. On the way to Mountain Point, which is where we are anchoring for the night, we were fortunate enough to see a lone dolphin which was super cool. After three hours, we got here and did a quick lesson on the physics of sailing and showered. Zaver started laughing at security guards on a yacht while dinner was being made. Dinner was a loud and fun time, as always, and then we did squeeze. The question of the day was: What would you name your children? P.S Mama and Baba, I miss you guys so much; tell Yousef and Lara I’m thinking of them and excited to tell them about my experience here – Lina
P.S. Hi, Mom, Dad, and Emily! Miss you guys and can’t wait to see you all when I get home soon. ❤️ ❤️
