Location: Marina Cay
This morning we all awoke suspiciously well-rested, realizing that we were not woken by blasting inspirational music but rather by birds chirping and the sun rising over the port. A relaxing sleep was needed after yesterday’s packed schedule with boat rotations and several open water dives, vega’s first introduction to true scuba diving. The DM’s (Georgia, Lauren, and I) were especially thankful for the quiet night after a late night doing “dive demos” ;). This quiet morning was quickly interrupted, however, by Garrison blasting his musicals through the speakers as we got to work taking down hammocks and preparing breakfast. After a 5-star meal of crépes prepared by Stella and Kate, we set sail for Trellis for our day off. Georgia needed help opening the foot locker after using her massive fire coral burn as an excuse to avoid manual labor, but we grabbed our shoes regardless and took a dingy to shore. This place was low-key beautiful; lush greenery, clear blue water, sandy beaches, and friendly locals, a mini paradise. We first crashed into a market and stocked up on snacks.
Lucas got a flashy rash guard, which he was very excited to use in his swim later in the evening. Issy, Harry, Lucas, Aubrey, Stella, Kate, and I dropped in on a local souvenir shop with pottery, necklaces, and shirts. Harry bought a “cursed” wooden sculpture that apparently was in the shop for over ten years before being taken by someone. Everyone else bought friendship bracelets, necklaces, and/or shirts. Lauren and Maude took a walk around the beach, buying Cheetos and other snacks, when Lauren dropped her Grateful Dead baseball cap in the ocean. She promptly jumped into the ocean after it, getting herself soaked in the process while Maude pointed, laughed, and took pictures. We then all met up at a restaurant to get lunch and compare souvenirs. We realized that Georgia, Sela, and I all got very, very similar shirts at the souvenir shop by accident, so we wore them for the rest of the evening. It took a long time for food to come considering everyone is on island time in the BVI’s, but we were all able to eat eventually. Avery got two cokes, a penné Alfredo, and a virgin painkiller, none of which she was able to eat because she forgot that she wasn’t hungry. Aubrey, Lana, Issy, and Kate found a trampoline to jump on before we left for the Nomada. Once back on our humble boat, we took a long sail to Musk Melon Cove, on which everyone took turns steering our ship. At Musk Melon, we enjoyed another 5-star meal of Beef Stroganoff, after which we had a dance battle against Odyssey to end the night.
