Location: Salt Island

The boat was all up and eating oatmeal by seven this morning, all while motoring to the Rhone, a wreck that sunk in the 19th century. At the Rhone, we completed the second training dive for our underwater photography specialty with improved methods of photography after examining photos from the first photography dive. This earned us our second specialty so far, being the underwater photography specialty!

Later in the morning, after the dive, we motored a short way to the beach on Salt Island. In today’s dive brief, we learned that the Queen of England was so thankful to the inhabitants of Salt Island after they free dove to recover the bodies of the British sailors on the Rhone that she has kept salt from Salt Island for meals at Christmas ever since and gave the island back to the people! We hiked up the steep trail to the top, and there, we enjoyed the view, took photos, and socialized with other boats.

We arrived back at the boat just in time for Tuscan white bean soup for lunch, which we ate with everyone’s favorite snack, saltines. After we finished with lunch, we motored back to GHP (Great Harbor, Peter Island), where we remained for the remainder of the day, leaving people with time to sleep, snorkel our night dive site, work on the beginnings of research questions, and do water sports.

We’ve just finished dinner, which was chicken Caesar salads with risotto. Though the day is far from over because later, we have the second in our series of three-night dives!
