Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
We started off today bright and early with a breakfast of scrambled eggs and blueberry muffin cake. After a quick morning cleanup, we set sail for the first time. It started with a rocky start, metaphorically and literally, with our Lazy Jacks (the ropes that hold up the bag that holds the main sail) snapping and winds up to 20 knots. It was really wavy but really fun. We were split into three teams called watch teams, and we split up the 6-hour sailing venture. Being on the first team, I helped set the sails and helm the boat or steer it where we needed to go. We arrived at Savannah Bay a whole hour early because of the howling winds. In Savannah Bay, we ate a lunch of PB&Js and then practiced putting together our SCUBA kits. We all had to put them together twice with minimal help after Tony, the dive instructor, demonstrated how to do it a “few” times. Then we had our 2nd dive chat, learning what to do in an emergency and how to interact with the environment. Afterward, we all went swimming in the ocean and had a blast. After our ocean showers, we had dinner with sloppy Joe’s, sweet corn, mashed potatoes, and salad. To end the evening for squeeze, we had the question, “Share a meaningful quote,” and boy, did everyone have meaningful quotes, with everything from our Universe to how to live your life.
