Day 10, Started out with the anticipation of Rescue exercise 7. The unconscious diver tow is an exercise that we have heard about since day one, and today we finally were able to use the skills we learned. For the first part of the morning, we learned the two where we give rescue breaths by basic mouth-to-mouth but not because diseases are not on my list of things. The first exercise was rough. The number of things you were thinking of and how you are going to get the patient to the boat in time. Then we realized that there’s more time than we think. We believe that there is so much to do in such little time when the really important things are to be done in 5-second increments. After about 45 minutes and an hour in the water, we had lunch, feeling confident in what we had just accomplished. For the second half of the day, we did the same exercise, except we used a pocket mask instead of mouth-to-mouth. I personally found the pocket mask a little harder because you had to make sure that you kept the mask sealed at all times, but I feel that either one I could use in a situation. We finished the day with a well-deserved Thanksgiving meal that was well deserved and rewarding.
