Location: Marina Cay
Day 12: Trellis
The day began with the staff promptly abandoning us for a staff meeting at 8 AM. While our brave leaders were gone, Maren whipped up 40-odd pancakes while Noah and I tended to the two dozen scrambled eggs, followed by a batch of finely crafted artisanal omelets capable of making a blind man weep. Claire, Nadiya, Sadie, and Aiden finished our breakfast routine by ridding the immense amount of used dishes of their various respective foods. Shortly after the arrival of our all powerful oligarchs (staff), we ferried our way over to the island town of Trellis, this highly anticipated landing did not disappoint. Upon receiving island orientation from Megan and company, our convoy of explorers set out as one, determined to find the finest treasures and foods. Our search began with a visit to the local grocery store where Noah bought Guava Jam, and Sadie got a literal boatload of snacks and candies. After the boat-wide restock of culinary favorites, our eager band of sailors headed to a local reputable art store.
On arriving at Aragorn’s Studio, Iles Et Ailes’ crew flooded into every corner of the store, mesmerized by local jewelry, art, sculptures, and textiles. The exotically designed T-shirts particularly caught the attention of the wide-eyed foreigners. As everyone selected a T-shirt from the extensive collection of similar designs, Ella picked out a bobble turtle, Julia found a bobble snail, Claire got a fish statue, Maren found a Tortola tote bag, Nadiya got a ceramic manatee and BVI necklace, and I got a tiki bone. Immediately after setting his shirt on the counter and reaching for his wallet, Noah dropped his jar of Guava jam. The store held its breath as the beloved jam lay on the floor, surrounded by hundreds of glass shards. By the time the jam had been cleaned up and everyone had checked out, a local man had taught Aiden, B, Noah, and me how to blow into a conch shell. Once we had all had our try at the conch, the sun was high during the stay, and we were headed to the Loose Mongoose, our lunch destination. On the way, Maren, Clare, and Celeste stopped to talk to a boy who versed them in the local lizard population. Everyone ordered well at the Mongoose and had a good lunch, except for Sariah, whose food never arrived (don’t worry, though, we made sure she had plenty of delectable morsels from our own delicious platters). After a long-awaited lunch and a little math, we followed the beach back to the pier, where Will and friends were waiting for a dinghy to take us back to our beloved boat. While waiting for a ride, Noah acquired a new jar of Guava Jam. After a good day in Trellis, El Capitan directed us towards our new anchorage, Musk Melon Bay. En route we attempted to hoist the main sail but were forced to abort due to issues with the halyard, nevertheless our valiant crew stayed true to our course, the track took no more than an hour. After Ocean Showers, a beautiful boat-wide production of the National Anthem, and a hearty chili dinner prepared by Maren, we engaged in our nightly tradition of “Squeeze.” The question was, “If the person to your left was a city, which one would they be?”. We finished this extensive day with a game of Pterodactyl…
