This morning, Watch Team 3 woke up to an overcast sky with tune master Zac singing and dancing on the helm. The cloudy morning reminded Charlie of his motherland in the UK (Hi Charlie’s grandparents and Hi Ben), so Laney, Charlie, and I enjoyed some Yorkshire tea in true English spirit. Mina went for what we call cowboy coffee (coffee grounds and hot water) as she thought this whole time it was instant coffee (it’s not).
Since Nick is quickly going through his sweet treat supply, a true emergency, we are trying to get to the Azores as quickly as possible! However, still without any wind to sail, we continue motoring our way through Lake Atlantic and trekking our way north. Avery and Mimi took the opportunity to clean their laundry in the calm seas and were pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t as bad as they expected. In the spirit of cleaning, Watch Team 3 did a floor sweep and scrub down below. Down in the galley, Hayes cooked up chicken Caesar wraps while simultaneously playing Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros; turns out he is a master chef and multitasker. During lunch, Dylan spotted something floating a few boat lengths away, and Nick was convinced it was treasure, so we prepared to pick it up. Unfortunately, it was not a treasure map or a message in a bottle but just some old fishing gear. In leadership today, we did some reflective journaling and, of course, played a game. I also introduced them to their first big assignment, an autobiography essay. For many of them, it will be their first school essay that they have had to write the old-fashioned way, with just pen and paper. In seamanship, Charlie guest-starred to help with some practice problems plotting waypoints. For dinner, we ate another Argo classic: taco bowls! While many people were scared of the soya protein at first, in the end, they were s”rprised that “it actually tast”d kinda good.” During dinner, clean Shane and Rooke found some loose water bottles and, concerned for their safety, promptly hoisted them up the flag halyard and saluted them.
Andrew wants you all to know that the sunset is spectacular tonight, and we hope you are enjoying the sunset too, from wherever you are reading this.
