Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda

After waking up slightly sun-kissed but rested, we enjoyed a breakfast of banana pancakes handmade by our lovely chefs Juno and Kylie. As soon as we cleaned up the boat, we headed to Virgin Gorda for our first hike. We climbed from the leeward side of the island, where the water was warm and calm, to the windward side, which was all steep rock faces and crashing waves! After the hike, we returned to our floating home and worked on our naturalist booklets. Right now, we are doing vertebrate and invertebrate identification with scientific drawings! Emi, Ari, Mahe, Julia, Maren, Ellie, and Josie got the most done, but we were all impressed with Juno’s drawings, which are super detailed and amazing.
After lunch, we geared up for our navigation dive, working on our compass skills that we had practiced on the beach that morning. Kyler and Perry did karate moves underwater while we all did our navigation. We all had a great time, and it was a successful and long dive for all of us! We also practiced our first solo safety stops with our buddies. I am super glad I have a dive computer to keep track of my depth!
After the dive, we worked on our IDs a bit more before jumping into our ocean showers. Literally, we all jumped off the side of the boat — Tyler, Juno, and Antonio did flips too!
We had chili and rice for dinner (which was a crowd favorite), and after a quick dishy pit accompanied by Julia’s Norwegian music, we had our third chat to work on our curriculum. We ended the night with chocolate milk and a movie in the cabin. What an amazing day!
