Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay

Today, we started early by planning out preemptively how we should delegate roles for upcoming rescue scenarios we were warned about. We then had some French toast made by the chefs Asa and Lanie. After that, everyone else went on the last search and recovery dive. Had lunch of chicken wraps. Around 1 pm, we were startled by one of the staff from the other boat in the water, screaming that he had lost his buddies underwater. We started acting according mostly to plan; Wiley, Riley, and Lilly/Lanie went in buddy teams to save the people in the water while almost everyone else stayed surface to assist them in getting the people up onto the boat and out of the sun. Lila, Asa, and Gabi stayed inside to comfort the first one out of the water, who was acting panicked. The second diver to come up was unresponsive, and we had to prepare emergency oxygen and do chest compressions on a fender. The last one to come up broke free of Ellery’s grasp while they were walking around the ship and dove back into the water, so she had to go back in to chase him. Once everyone was on the boat and secure, we finished up and Ri said we did a good job for our first time. After briefing the scenario, some of us had ants on logs(raisins on celery with peanut butter). Around 3, we did some (planned) Individual rescue scenarios where we had to surface an unresponsive diver and tow them back to the boat. During these scenarios, JJ was acting as the rescuer, and once he found the victim he was supposed to save, he got the roles mixed up and started floating on his back (like a fainting goat). Wiley later compared that to when goats get overexcited and pass out on their backs. After everyone got back from those successfully, we dinghied out to a sandy and rocky island called Sandy Spit, where the girls collected shells and the guys buried someone in the sand. After we got back by hitchhiking onto an incoming dinghy, we took ocean showers and then had a dinner of beans and franks with some cornbread.
