Location: White Bay, Peter Island
Today was our first day aboard Rangitoto Too! Wake up was at 6:30 and a breakfast of cereal followed soon after. We had the “Dock Talk” with the director, Mike, at 8. It was 2 hours long! Afterwards, we got to run around the dock and shop until 10 o’clock. Boats started leaving the port around 10:30. Once at sea, Alisa, Rachael, and Matt taught the Rang crew about tying knots and raising the sails. We raised sails and were on the water for 2 hours before arriving at Peter Island. The staff sent us on a swim test; 6 laps around the boat, and treading water for 10 minutes. We were split up into 2 groups of 5 with Alisa and Rachael. I went with Alisa, and my group practiced our skills; mask clearing, sharing regs, etc. Afterwards, the whole ship took salt water showers. We dried off and Meriel cooked us Sloppy Joe’s for dinner. After clean up, the students had down time until the meeting on Great White. Overall, it was an awesome first day at sea!
