Location: Anegada
This morning started off early for Hunter, Tucker, Quin, and Gabe as they woke up to watch the beautiful sunrise when we set sail for Anegada at 5 am. After everyone rose from their slumber Hunter and Tucker made French Toast for everyone while I made myself cereal. After breakfast, we all cleaned our dishes, and each made our desired sandwiches to eat at the Beach Olympics. Shortly after we finished making our sandwiches, we boarded the dingy and rocked out to music the whole way to the beach.
Everyone was very excited for the first challenge, which was to dig a deep enough hole under a paddle so one person at a time could crawl under, run into the water to high-five staff member, and return to tag another team member so they could begin their own decent into the water. After we created a game plan, it was time for the first game to begin. We dug a large enough hole so that Moseley could squeeze under and take off while the rest of us continued digging to squeeze the rest under quickly. Just as soon as the first challenge began, it ended with our overwhelming victory, which caused Scottie, Sovo, Ellie, Helen, and all the rest of our crew to cheer.
The second challenge was more balance based as three of us had to stay on top of dingy bumpers as long as possible. Zora, Gabe, and Moseley quickly volunteered, and the second began with many team members from other boats and even two of our own falling into the water below them. While this chaos unfolded, Zora sat strong for ten minutes until she placed third overall.
The third challenge, Slippery Stitch, began after a short and well-needed break, and so Tucker, Megan, and Zora ran into the water to try and climb into a soap-covered dingy while several staff members inside tried to keep them out. After about seven minutes, the challenge ended with us placing second or third overall.
The second to last challenge was a tug of war, and Tucker took charge and explained our game plan to everyone. Just as quickly as our first round began, it ended in our victory, but it was now time to compete against an older and much stronger boat. We pulled as hard as possible, but it ended in our loss and our placing second.
After this loss, our motivation was slipping, but it was now lunchtime, and we could fill our famished stomachs. While we waited for lunch to arrive, Ellie and Helen tanned in the sun while the rest of us soaked in the water.
Lunch ended, and now it was time for the fifth and final challenge, which was to fill up a Pringles can with water, but you could only do that after you passed through all of your teammate’s legs, spin around five times and get past staff members actively trying to help their own team win. We started off strong and fast, filling up a quarter of the can after five people passed, but the other teams were also filling their can fast, if not faster than us, but we had an amazing defense as Mac prevented any other staff from stopping our venture back to the can. After several minutes another team finished just before us, but we still placed second in the final challenge.
The dingy arrived to take us to our boat so that we could shower and eat dinner, which Tucker and Hunter cooked. We ate garden burgers, beans, and mashed potatoes. We then had a dive chat which was a nice end to our amazing day.
