Location: Sommer's Beach, Tortola
Hola, everyone, it’s Juni. Today was an action-packed and busy rotation day. We started the day with a bowl of cereal before heading off to do water sports. I went with a few others with Garrett, while a different group went with the counselor, Zoe. Next, we went diving, with some of the boats doing their second Open Water Dive and the rest of us doing our Deep Dive for advanced certification. Amelia and Kai were warned by Tyler to stop screaming underwater, which was pretty funny. After diving, we went to Shamwari to practice our knots and learn how to drive the dinghy. Chase tried to do some donuts in the dinghy and failed a couple of times to do a drive-by pickup of a floatation device meant to represent a man overboard. We then had some delicious ‘Tuscan White Bean Soup for lunch back at our home boat, Odyssey. After fueling up on food, we headed to the mono-hull boat Glad to Be Here. There was a rope swing attached to the boom of the boat so we were all having a lot of fun with that.
Eli did a sick backflip off the side. Then, we spent a good hour hanging out and talking on the boat. Two kids from Glad to Be Here weren’t diving that day, so we had a good time talking to them. After exploring the cramped inside of the mono-hull compared to the catamarans that take up most of the fleet, it was time to zest at Avizia. I went in zest with Eli and Drake, and we sailed around capsizing and messing with other boats. At one point, Landon and Kai jumped off the zest they were on with Christina, but luckily, Landon used his expert swimming skills to swim himself back to safety, and he looked extremely cool doing it. Now that Christina was alone on the zest a counselor asked me to go swim to her to help her sail back to Avizia. Luke and Chase had to get towed back to safety by a dinghy because they got stuck so far downwind.
We hung out on Avizia until the rotation was over, talking to some counselors we hadn’t talked to before and practicing our knots. When it was time to go, we hopped on a dinghy to head back to our boat. Now that rotation day was over; the whole fleet headed over to a cove on Tortola to anchor before the Beach Barbecue. We all got ready, changed clothes, and took a group photo. We also took some fire photos with Arden. Finally, it was barbecue time, and we headed to the beach with a wet entry, having to jump off in a couple of feet of water. At the barbecue. we had burgers or hot dogs, ate on the rocks, and socialized and reconnected with all of our friends on the other boats in the camp. A big shirts vs. skins football match happened on the sand, and overall, everyone was having a really good time. Alex had a lot of fun picking flowers. It got dark after a beautiful sunset over the water, and after just an hour of being there, we all started to board dinghies to get back to our boats. We were ocean-showered in pitch-black water and headed off to bed a few hours later. Goodnight everyone!
