Location: Nevis
A couple of days ago, the students were given the opportunity to choose if they wanted to go on a bike, kayak, or horseback adventure while on Nevis, and today was finally the day of said chosen activity. We woke up a bit earlier than usual today to prepare for the big day ahead of us. First, we whipped up some breakfast burritos and packed some sandwiches to take with us. Then we started shuttling everyone to the beach. Upon arrival at the beach, our taxi driver met us with fresh mangos and flowers. From here, the taxi driver dropped everyone off at the starting location of their activities. The first activity which Davis and Aidan (from Meow) did with Mark, Aidan, Ari, and Theo was a huge 26-mile bike ride around the whole island of Nevis. Along the way, they stopped off at a grocery store to get a cold soda and also had the opportunity to stop off at some hot springs to relax for a bit before finishing their bike ride. The next activity was kayaking. Matty P (from Meow) led this activity with some of his students, Ian and Nicholas. This activity consisted of a super cool guided kayak along the coast, a refreshing ting soda, and an opportunity to go snorkeling! The last activity was horseback riding which I did along with Sela and the girls on Meow or Never. We got to ride through the coastline and the beach, where all our horses tried to take us with them for a bit of a swim.
Once all the activities had finished, we returned to the beach that the boats were anchored off of and had some beach time. The students played soccer and frisbee, swam in the water, and relaxed on the beach. After lots of beach time, we shuttled back to MaryLee and spent some time swimming around the boat and diving down to try and get a closer look at some of the marine life living on the ocean floor only 15 feet below the boat. We then got ready for the first BBQ of our session. For this BBQ, we got dressed up and returned back to the same beach we were on earlier to go to a restaurant called Sunshines. Here the students got to choose between a chicken or fish, and both were reported to be delicious! Lots of the students also chose to get a virgin pina colada at dinner, which they reported to be super good. After the BBQ, we returned to MaryLee and decided to finish off Pirates of the Caribbean two.
So far, this has been an amazing trip, and all the students and staff can not wait to see what the rest of the islands have to offer!
