Wassup fam! Welcome to our first blog of the trip 🙂 We started the day with music and good vibes to wake up to and to get a good breakfast. Mike’s hour-long talk came next, which took forever, but it was honestly very informative and set the day up for a great start. Getting on the ship and learning the basics of sailing, taught by the one and only Alivia, was super fun. The weather made the boat ride so fun, everyone sitting side by side and getting splashed until we were completely soaked, a mixture of waves and rain made it that much more memorable. Kiran was an amazing captain, steering the boat and possibly sinking it, but we love her, so that’s okay lol. Then came the time to finally jump in the water for the first time, pretty sure everyone on this boat was looking forward to it so much we just started screaming when we finally got to jump. The swimming test was absolutely insane. The energy was so much fun. Everyone was just racing and competing to be the first one to finish our six laps, and although SOME people tried to cheat their way through by pulling their legs while swimming (yes, I’m talking about you, Darby), it just made it that much more fun. After a quick review of some skills we’ll be doing on our first dive, it was FINALLY time to get that dive gear on. Unfortunately, my mask fell off miserably ON MY FIRST DIVE, but it’s okay because Dave came to the rescue and saved my mask from the bottom of the ocean yayyy. Taking that first breath underwater was everything. Getting to see everyone in their element and just enjoying themselves, getting to play some games underwater while spotting some cute fish was amazing. We also spotted a barracuda, which was so cool. The other group got to see a sting Ray, too. When we were done with our dive, it was time for our first ocean shower, and it was absolutely chaotic, everyone just jumping off into the sea and spraying water—definitely one of the most memorable memories.
