Ahoy Mateys!
Location: West End, Tortola
Welcome to the BVI! We have spent the past few weeks eagerly preparing for our students to arrive. Our days consisted of sail training, plenty of tank runs, perfecting our dinghy driving abilities, and provisioning the boat. The next 21 days aboard White Pearl are going to be epic, and we can’t wait to meet our 12 shipmates with sails up and anchors away!
Let’s meet the crew (Left to right: Zac, Alexa, Anzie, + Iain)
Iain- Skipper
Iain grew up sailing on Lake Pend Oreille in Idaho, where he developed a love for being on the water at a young age. He spent many summers offshore cruising to the Bahamas and later expanded his experience aboard the 112-foot schooner Argo with SeaMester. During this time, he completed his IYT Master of Yachts 200-ton Sail certification. Iain is currently studying at Western Washington University and spends as much time as possible sailing his Catalina 22 or exploring the outdoors. He’s excited to be in the BVI this summer and is passionate about helping students gain confidence, learn new skills, and create unforgettable experiences on the water.
Alexa- Dive Instructor/Medic
Alexa grew up on the Jersey Shore, instilling a love for the ocean and marine conservation from a young age. This summer, Alexa is a dive instructor and an EMT on the medical staff. She started diving in 2019 on her ActionQuest voyage. Ever since then, she has continued diving all over the world, in pursuit of finally encountering a whale shark. Last summer, Alexa interned at a dive resort in Thailand where she became a PADI Instructor. In May, she graduated from Tulane University with a degree in English and Environmental Studies. While at Tulane, she worked as a trip leader for the Outdoor Adventures program and a substitute English teacher. Alexa is excited to introduce students to the thrilling underwater world and give them the experience that was so impactful to her.
Zac- Mate
Zac grew up slap bang in the middle of the UK, about as far from the ocean as you can get, but somehow still ended up with a serious passion for it. He was lucky enough to join AQ before embarking on Seamester’s S/Y Argo and sailing from South Africa to the Caribbean, which very quickly confirmed that land life might not be for him. Zac then stuck around to sail the boat back to Rome while earning his Yachtmaster along the way. He is now really excited to be joining ActionQuest for the first time and is looking forward to getting back out on the water and away from the rain.
Anzie - Dive Instructor
Despite growing up in the landlocked state of Indiana, Anzie has always enjoyed spending time in the water. Anzie joined AQ in 2019 as a Vega student and instantly fell in love with diving. Returning for more AQ programs throughout the years, Anzie has worked her way through the PADI rankings while making epic memories. When not in the BVI, Anzie studies Marine Biology & Ecology at the University of Miami, and in her free time, she enjoys going to the beach, line dancing, traveling, and sharing a good laugh with her friends. She can’t wait to return to the BVI this summer, this time as staff, and to help facilitate the same amazing experiences she had as a student with her shipmates!
