British Virgin Islands - 2026, Session 1

Arrival Day

Location: West End, Tortola

Ahoy Mateys!! Welcome to West End! For the past couple of weeks, we have been working extremely hard getting ready for the Summer. We are so excited to meet you all and have an incredible summer aboard S/Y Glad 2 Be Here.

Meet your fellow staff crew: Joey (Skipper); Nicky; Jimmy.

- Joey was born in Sacramento, California, but he discovered his passion for the water in Santa Barbara. He began with Opti regattas, progressed to the 420 division, and eventually moved into keelboat racing. His love for all things water-related has only grown over the years. As a student with Seamester on S/Y Vela’s summer voyage from the Caribbean to Rome, Joey completed his PSCT theory and passed the Practical Exam for his Master of Yachts Offshore Sailing endorsement. He is beyond excited to spend the summer sailing around the British Virgin Islands with ActionQuest!

- Nicola is a sailor from sunny South Africa with a background in marketing, business, and hospitality. After finishing her postgraduate degree in 2020, she followed her love for people, travel and the ocean and went straight into the yachting industry. Over the next few years, she worked on a variety of vessels around the world, building her skills, gaining sea miles and fully embracing life on the water. More recently, she returned home to grow her experience in marketing within the music industry, but the pull of the ocean never really left. She’s since completed a few skipper qualifications and is always keen to keep learning and improving her sailing. Nicola is especially passionate about the impact sailing can have and loves connecting with others who feel the same.

- Jimmy is from Los Altos, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he spent a lot of time in and around the ocean, which gave him a love for surfing, swimming, and any other activity in the water. Jimmy currently attends the University of Oregon, where he studies geography and is a member of the club water polo team. In the fall of 2022, he joined a Seamester Transatlantic program aboard S/Y Vela, where he found a passion for scuba diving. Afterward, he got his EMT certification and is part of the medical team for ActionQuest. Back home, he does most of his diving in Washington and Oregon, where he likes to catch Dungeness crab with his friends. In his free time, you can find him surfing, biking, reading, cooking, and getting outside as much as possible. Jimmy is hyped to join the AQ team this summer!

We are stoked to meet our new crew members and ‘Glad to be here’ :)
