First Day Best Day!
Location: West End, Tortola
Good day and welcome to the blog of Hagan Time! Our merry band of misfits has been busy for the past few weeks in preparation for the journey ahead. For those of you joining in from home, follow along as we sail the pristine seas, dive in the crystal clear waters, and explore the British Virgin Islands, all while making so many amazing friends and memories along the way. Below is a brief introduction to our staff team.
Riley: Sail Side B Director, Skipper, Medic, Ops and Office, general workaholic.
Riley spent most of his early life and teenage years racing dinghies, keelboats, performance catamarans, and other racing-oriented sailboats. Riley had his boating license by age 12, First Aid/CPR certification by 15, and became a Level 1 and 2 U.S. Sailing Certified coach at age 17. Riley also gained a Pre-Engineering Certification through his high school and spent time building docks and seawalls in the Sarasota/Bradenton area. He has participated in multiple World Championship regattas on the east coast of the U.S. and began some Olympic training in the Nacra 17 class in 2021. Riley spent four years as a race team sailing coach for a community-based sailing program in Sarasota, Florida, where he met Travis, Mike, and the majority of the GXG office team. Riley joined ActionQuest in 2021 as a mate. Since then, he has joined the office during the year as an enrollment advisor and has spent time working for all of the brands underneath the GXG tree, also getting his 200-ton Yachmaster in Spring 2024. Riley spends almost all his time on the water, whether it be sailing, surfing, fishing, or any other sport on or in the water. When it comes to teaching, Riley is dedicated to teaching the sport that he has learned to love in an easy and fun environment, even though his background is mainly focused on high-performance racing. Riley also has some experience in organic produce farming and mollusk/crustacean farming throughout the Southeast United States.
Margaret: Skipper, Chief Vibes Officer and Hype Supervisor
Margaret grew up in Palm Beach, Florida, 10 minutes away from the beach. She loves all water activities, from surfing to scuba diving. While in college, Margaret joined the Seamester program from Fiji to Bali on S/Y Vela. Aboard Vela, Margaret became a PADI Rescue Diver and an Emergency First Responder. Margaret has worked with kids as a surf instructor and at marine biology summer camps. She cannot wait to teach students how to sail and to have a fantastic time this summer!
Nat: Dive Instructor and Medic
Natalie grew up in central Illinois, developing a love for the outdoors at an early age. This interest led her to pursue a degree in environmental sciences at the University of Wyoming, where she spent most of her free time backpacking and climbing around the Intermountain West. While in college, Natalie discovered her love of sailing and diving when she joined Seamester as a student in 2021, sailing from Antigua to Fiji.
After finishing her degree, Natalie worked in outdoor education, sailed on various tall ships in California, and traveled through Southeast Asia. Most recently, she completed her PADI OWSI and several specialty instructor certifications. Aside from diving, you’ll find her reading, cooking, or walking her dog, Ella. Natalie is excited to join ActionQuest this summer and looks forward to sharing her love of the marine environment.
