Thee Goodest Ship, Avizia
Location: West End, Tortola
Welcome to the good ship Avizia, our home and floating adventure for the next 17 days. The paddle boards are strapped down, the dive and sail books are ready to go, and there are about 5 pounds of goldfish crackers stuffed in the cupboards. We can’t wait for the shipmates to arrive and complete our boat family of 12 students and three staff members. For now, it’s time to meet the staff!
Your courageous skipper Max!
Max could not be more excited to return for his third summer as staff. He spent the last year earning his Yachtmaster and is ready to share his new knowledge with students. Max is studying design and business at Colorado College while he is not on the water. In Colorado, he enjoys exploring the backcountry on his skis and bike. Some of his favorite memories as a staff member and when he was a student are the camp barbecues.
Your lovely mate Anya!
Anya was born and raised in Marin County, California, where she first developed her love for the ocean through surfing, fishing, and freediving along the northern coast. She migrated 6 hours south to attend school in Santa Barbara, where she is completing her undergraduate degree in developmental biology. Her interest in human health led to her getting her EMT certification last year. She hopes to pursue a career in emergency medicine (firefighting, teaching high school English, or being an Elvis impersonator). In her free time, Anya often lies in the nearest body of water, practices yoga, plots her next snack, or watches Legally Blonde/Legally Blonde-adjacent movies. This will be her first season with ActionQuest, and she is beyond excited for the fantastic experiences her students and crew are sure to have this summer!
Your fabulous dive instructor Cara!
All the way from a rural, kangaroo-filled corner of Australia, Cara will be teaching diving, knots, and how to avoid sunburn. She has been living in Central America and the Caribbean for the last five years and flew in from Utila, Honduras, this time ‘round. Initially an English Language Teacher, she realized she loved teaching but would rather teach diving than verb tenses. Cara has a Bachelor’s degree from Aus that she never uses and is a PADI SCUBA and Emergency First Response instructor with three years of experience. In her free time, Cara is a surfer, reader, and fish enthusiast! This is Cara’s second year with ActionQuest, and she can’t wait to meet the shipmates and see the boat family and in-jokes develop over the next 17 days.
