British Virgin Islands - 2023, Session 1

Welcome to Soul Rebel!

Location: West End, Tortola

The crew of Soul Rebel is bursting with excitement to meet their new crew of shipmates and welcome them aboard. Joe, Anna, and Cara have been working hard to prepare everything over the last two weeks. The dive gear’s been inspected, the PFDs counted, and the food stowed. Our home for the next 21 days is shipshape, and we cannot wait for the 12 new shipmates to arrive to complete our Soul Rebel family. With a collection of old and new students, we expect a great wealth of knowledge to be shared and lifelong memories to be made. We can’t wait to don our SCUBA tanks and show all of you the beautiful reefs the British Virgin Islands have to offer. For now, Joe, Anna, and Cara will be waiting patiently to see the first ferry carrying shipmates show up on the horizon.
Here’s an intro to the crew of Soul Rebel.

Joe - Skipper and Marine Biologist

Joe was born and raised in Bolton, UK. He discovered his passion for the marine world when training to become a freediving instructor. After that, he did a master’s degree in Marine Ecology at the University of the Balearic Islands in Mallorca. He learned to sail in the wild and windy waters of the UK and is super excited to bring his passion for marine ecology and sailing to all the shipmates at ActionQuest!

Anna - Marine Biologist

Anna is returning to AQ this summer after teaching the Dolphin program in 2021, and she is so excited to be back! She is from the Central Coast of California and has worked as a marine naturalist, field researcher, and scientific illustrator around the world. She received her B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley, in Conservation and Resource Studies and has worked as a Marine Science Instructor in San Diego and French Polynesia. Anna has a master’s certificate in Science Illustration from Cal State University, Monterey Bay, and she loves to use art as a way to communicate environmental biology. She is excited to share her love of marine biology, sailing, and diving this summer!

Cara - Dive Instructor

All the way from Australia, Cara is a PADI Dive Instructor and fish enthusiast! She has been living in Central America and the Caribbean for six years and worked as an English teacher before she decided she would rather teach scuba diving instead. Cara last worked at AQ in 2021, and she is looking forward to exploring the reef during another great summer out on the water with an amazing crew of new and old friends.
