British Virgin Islands - 2023, Session 1

Welcome to the BVI!

Location: West End, Tortola

It’s finally here! We cannot wait for all of our shipmates to arrive safely on Beso del Viento (BdV) and to get out on the water. Our boat’s sitting a little deeper in the water with all of the food, dive gear, water, etc., that we’ve spent the last few weeks preparing for this: our first voyage of the summer. It’s going to be a fun one filled with diving, sailing, and some classic AQ shenanigans, and we need our crew to get the ball rolling. Below, we’ve introduced our professional selves and experiences. However, what we really are excited about, is curating good vibes and watching y’all form the tight-knit, familial groups that only AQ creates. See you on the water!

Emma - Skipper

Emma grew up 3 hours from the nearest ocean in Maryland, but to her, it was always worth the drive! She fell in love with scuba diving while earning her degree in Marine Affairs and Sustainable Business at the University of Miami. While in college, Emma was lucky enough to sail from South Africa to the Caribbean on both S/Y Argo and S/Y Vela. Emma used her degree to teach high school science, but then, the call of adventure took her to New Zealand, Australia, and Tahiti in the past year. She can’t wait to bring her teaching skills and adventurous spirit to play as she helps our shippies sail BdV into the sunset. If you don’t find her on a boat, you’ll probably see her being towed behind it on a wakeboard!

Garrison - Dive Instructor

Garrison is a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor returning for his third summer to Action Quest as the Dive Director for Sail Side A! He loves to show students the underwater world and doesn’t fail to point out some of his favorite marine animals. Garrison joined the GXG team in 2019 as a shipmate on S/Y Argo with the Seamester program. Realizing his love for the ocean, he pursued his dive instructor certification on Utila Island for six months. While on the island, Garrison became more familiar with Caribbean fishes and coral. Now, he goes to school at Vanderbilt, where he is a board member of the sailing team. His most significant flex at school is that he gets to spend his summers at AQ! This summer, he’s looking forward to diving wrecks and reefs and even taking shippies on their first night dive. Dive Boat = Best Boat! (We’re the dive boat).

Sela - Dive Instructor

Sela is known for being one of the best instructors at AQ (per a review from her mom). She’s excited to return for her second summer as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. Last year, she had a blast introducing her shippies to SCUBA and being part of that AQ magic. Now, she can’t wait for more sailing and diving around the islands with old and new students. Sela’s also a student at the University of Miami, where she is pursuing a degree in nursing. As part of the arrivals team, shippies can expect to meet her first, welcoming them to the Virgin Islands, and she can’t wait to see everyone!
