Hello everyone!
Tait, Sam, and Gabe here. The past few days have been
The past two weeks have been a blur of organizing, buffing, repairing, and rebuilding in preparation for another summer of fun. As the day of your arrival has crept closer, the final touches have been being made on our boat “Meant to Be.” She is stocked full of food and water, and her batteries are full. Now we are just waiting for the final piece of the puzzle to arrive, you guys! We are the Quest boat, and we are so excited for all of you to come to explore the rich natural culture that the BVI provides, as well as experience the epic art of sailing. The Quest program will be there to support you during your quest to sail, dive, swim, contribute to the community, cook, and all the other journeys that you will take with us!
Meet the Event Horizon team!
Gabe the Skipper:
Gabe learned to sail in high school as a sea scout on the ferocious waters of Northern California. After spending a semester crossing the Atlantic on the Seamester vessel Argo, Gabe enrolled in and graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He has worked on NOAA research vessels, tall ships, yachts, dive boats, and even a couple of submarines. Holding both US Coast Guard and IYT Yachtmaster captain’s licenses, Gabe has many years of experience skippering several vessels. He is also licensed as a PADI dive instructor and has logged hundreds of dives worldwide. Most recently, Gabe has spent the past year working for Seamester back on Argo and has sailed over 10,000 nautical miles across the Caribbean and Pacific. Gabe loves to teach sailing and diving, learn about different places worldwide, and share adventures on the ocean with others. He is very excited to return to ActionQuest this summer.
Sam the Mate:
Sam was born and raised in Grand Cayman and loved the ocean. She grew up doing all kinds of watersports with her two brothers and fell in love with sailing in the Spring of 2021 while crossing the Pacific Ocean with SeaMester. Through the 8,000nm journey, Sam became NavMaster certified and obtained VHF and ICC certifications. She now crews on race boats, with her most recent regatta being from Fort Lauderdale to Key West. She is a certified rescue diver and avid freediver, having been down deeper than 100ft in a single breath! Sam is on the rowing team at the University of Miami and studied sports and documentary journalism. She’s excited to spend the summer with ActionQuest and go after her skipper’s license soon after.
Tait the Mate:
Tait was born and raised on the ocean, splitting time between Cape Cod and the Thimble Islands. She began her sailing career as a toddler on her family’s boat before turning to race Optis at six. Since then, she’s sailed on 420s, lightenings, J24s, Sonars, Dyer Dhows, J92s, Flying Tigers, and more! Tait has been working as a sailing instructor since the age of eighteen. Her love of blue water sailing began when she completed an Atlantic crossing with Seamester in the fall of 2018. Off the water, Tait is a skiing instructor, avid reader, and creative writer. She attends Skidmore College, double majoring in theater for directing and English for writing. She is so excited to get back on the water this summer and cannot wait to meet a new group of enthusiastic adventurers to explore the ocean with!
