The Finale: RMS Rhone
Location: The Bight, Norman Island
HELLO EVERYONE, It's me, Kai, today's skipper! Today was literally the best day ever since everyone is a PADI Open Water Diver now. We did our "fun" dive, which included diving at the shipwreck of the RMS Rhone. Today's chefs were Olivia and Tommaso, who made us a quick and easy breakfast of instant oatmeal. After breakfast, everyone hopped aboard our super dinghy Khan, and we were shuttled over to Mere Cat, our diving boat. Everyone kitted up in their scuba gear, and we were off to the RMS Rhone. I dived with our amazing counselor Lilah, along with Hannah and Mollie, and we saw some amazing sights. We swam around the wreck and got some amazing photos and videos.
After a little while, Lilah, Hannah, Mollie, and I swam through the ship. Even though the swim-through was short, it was really amazing, sort of intimidating also because the propeller on the ship is massive. I don't even know where to start in describing how big it was. After a quick 3-minute safety stop, we headed up to the boat, where Skye, Rob, and Tommaso told us they saw not one but TWO sharks. Madora, Piper, Neena, and Ludovico also saw the shark, and apparently, even though the shark was right in front of them, Madora claims she didn't see it! We were all laughing about that. Then we had a nice grilled cheese lunch, and after that, we met up with our fellow sail side boats, Break Away and Wombat, on the beach. From there, everyone hiked up to the top of the mountain next to where we were anchored. When everyone was hiking, we saw salt flats which were pretty cool, but unfortunately, they smelled really bad. After the hike, it was time for our final sailing exam to get certified. Everyone studied for a little while before the exam, and then it was time! The exam was 50 questions, but they were easy, and it took little time. I believe everyone passed, which is amazing! Then we left the site of the RMS Rhone and motored over to the Bight on Norman Island, which is the spot where we were moored on one of the first days. When we got here, Erik was asleep in the cockpit, and we all had a laugh because he is literally always in REM sleep. It's impossible to wake him up. You can be screaming about how the boat is sinking, and he will not wake up. We all had a laugh trying to wake him.
Over the 19 days we've been here, it's been learned that Erik wakes up really quickly if you tickle his feet. After that, all the staff headed off to their staff meeting about the end of the trip. Ben wasn't invited, though, so he stayed behind with us on Shape Up. Since all of the other boats had no staff, everyone had a lot of fun. Boats had hammock pile-ups halfway up the mast and hilarious dance-offs between boats. Then the staff came back, and order was restored. We're about to have a class/ Lifeworks session, I think, and everyone is having a dance party in the saloon, which is right around me! Everyone just experienced their last saltwater showers and the last dinner clean-up tonight. I cannot believe only one more full day until we are leaving. I know everyone will be really sad to leave each other. Anyways that's all I've got for now. Goodnight, and shape out!!
